THE BAND
WHO WE ARE
Based in Malvern, John is the lead singer in the band. His vocal tone is exceptional, ranging from warm and soulful to a gritty blues delivery. Inspired by the legendary blues bands of the sixties, he has performed extensively around the UK with bands including the 717 Blues Band, John Denton’s Midnight Band, The Blues Raiders and The Very Grimm Brothers.
Alan has played rhythm and lead guitar in bands and acoustic duos since the age of 15. Along the way he has played a wide range of music including soul, blues, rock, folk, and jazz. He cites Larry Carlton, Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter, and Ry Cooder as significant influences. Alan was an original member of the legendary Soft Boys in the 1970s.
Famously modest, Morris is a widely-respected drummer and backing vocalist. Since humble beginnings as percussionist with the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra, he has played, toured, and recorded extensively during a musical career spanning four decades. He was a founder member of The Soft Boys and has toured extensively in Europe and America with Robyn Hitchcock and The Egyptians, supporting REM, as well as being a member of the house band for Vic Reeves’ Big Night Out. Morris has also performed with musicians from many famous bands, including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Madness and Squeeze.
Colin is an accomplished and supremely funky bass player, who locks in with Morris to create a formidable rhythm section. He began playing guitar at the age of 10 but says that he switched to bass when six strings became too much for him!
Robin is the keyboard supremo and unofficial musical director of the band. He has worked as a musical arranger for several bands, making a number of television appearances. A self-professed ‘soul boy’ in his teens, his early keyboard influences include Elton John and Oscar Peterson.
